Chocolate Kahlua Cake

The recipe for Chocolate Kahlua Cake is a little more lengthy then the other recipes in this website, but the end result is worth the time put in to make this cake. Chocolate Kahlua Cake is a great dessert for any occasion. This recipe does contain alcohol, but is mostly prevalent in the glaze that goes on top of the cake. The cake, without the glaze, is safe for children to consume.

Ingredients

  • 1 package of plain devil's food cake mix

  • 1 package of chocolate instant pudding mix (5.9 ounces)

  • 3/4 cup of Kahlua

  • 1/2 cup of water*

  • 1/2 cup of vegetable oil

  • 4 large eggs

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup of powdered sugar, sifted

  • 1/4 cup of Kahlua

*I like to add a splash of coffee to the water to give the cake more flavor

Directions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Lightly spray the baking pan with vegetable oil spray.

Place the cake mix, pudding mix, Kahlua, water, oil and eggs in a large mixing bowl. Blend with an electric mixer on a low speed. After a minute or so, stop the mixer and with a spatula, scrape down the sides of the bowl. Blend again on medium speed for 2 or 3 minutes, scraping the sides as you go.

Once the batter looks smooth, pour it into the pan and place in the oven for 45-47 minutes.

Once baked, place on a cooling rack for 20 minutes. Once it is cool, take a knife around the edges of the pan and carefully turn it over onto a serving platter.

The Glaze:

Place the powder sugar and the Kahlua in a small bowl and mix until it is combined.

Lightly pour the glaze over the top of the cake.
